18/03 - Cup Finals at Aldborough Road
The nights are drawing out which means evening matches and Cup Final Season. We have a great line up of Finals for you this year which is good for the Club and recognition of the magnificent effort put in throughout the year by John Horner and his team which gives us pitches recognised as being worthy of such events.
The first two finals are on Wednesday 26th March, and are organised by our own Charles Walbrook. He told us "There are 2 matches commencing at the same time. The first on the main pitch is the Major Units Cup Final between 2 Lancs and 9 Regt AAC and the second on the reserves pitch is the Minor Units Cup Final between AFC Harrogate and 3 Close Medical Support Regt. The reason they are called Major and Minor is all units in the Army are categorised as to size. If a unit has less than 300 soldiers it is a Minor and if over 300 it is called a Major Unit. This Competition allows units only from 2 Division (all units based in the north) to enter into a mini style football competition. The number of Major Units starting the Competition was 12 and the number of Minor Units starting was 5. But still is an achievement for the finalists."
"Both games are scheduled to KO at 1400hrs. If either of the games warrant extra time the presentation will not take place until they have both concluded. The presentation will take place in front of the main entrance of the clubhouse."
Why not get along and watch what should be a fantastic afternoon and show your support for our Armed Services who are doing thankless jobs at great personal risk in appalling circumstances throughout the world.
