BOROUGHBRIDGE ‘A’ 1 WESTBROOK YMCA RES 2
This was another fixture where Bridge gave a good account of themselves against promotion chasing opposition yet once again they had nothing to show for their endeavours. They started off well enough with the darting runs of the omni-present Steve Warburton causing all sorts of problems and Paul Scaife testing Martin Sutcliffe with a couple of efforts from the edge of the box. Westbrook’s best chance in this early period came from a mix up in the Bridge defence and they were fortunate to see Darren Hands waste the opportunity. The opening goal came in the 28 minutes with a cool finish from Scaife after he had been put clear by Warburton but the visitors were level within four minutes as Glen Rothwell knocked home a Stuart Bates cross. This is how it stayed until the 59th minutes when Rothwell returned the compliment for Bates to give Josh Donnelly no chance with a spectacular finish. With Matt Bates beginning to control the midfield area Westbrook were now enjoying the better of the game and should have added to their tally, especially Will Childs, who missed an open goal. Bridge did have the occasional flurry but they were unable to achieve any sustained pressure leaving their battle for survival increasingly arduous.
