WETHERBY ATHLETIC 3 BOROUGHBRIDGE 3
This relegation dogfight ended up in stalemate as Bridge twice threw away the lead in the second half against a resolute home side who had Adam Boyce dismissed on the hour mark for two bookable offences. Unusually for Manager Daz Ekin he was able to pick from a fifteen man squad but it was Wetherby who grabbed the early initiative as Tom Dickinson capitalised on a defensive mistake to nudge in the opener on 13 minutes. The home side continued to dominate and Alastair Hogg kept his side in the match with two excellent saves to deny Lee Ormorod. Bridge meanwhile were busy but ineffective and it was not until the 35 minute that had their first legitimate shot as Danny Webster fired wide. This, however, was the start of Bridge’s best period of the game and they should have levelled before the break as Uffindall flicked on Hogg’s long clearance to Marcus Philpott who skilfully rounded James Senior only to see his goalbound effort lack the power to beat the backtracking Gary Evans. Bridge started the second half as they had finished the first and on 51 minutes the adroit Paul Eagling set up Uffindall for the equaliser. They looked to be more in the box seat, when on 65 minutes, Martin Hutchinson, with his first touch, sent in a deep corner which was met powerfully by Steven Paffett and there was the predatory Uffindall to knock the ball in from a yard out. Back came Wetherby and after producing fines saves from Paul Huswitt and Dickinson Hogg, under pressure from Dickinson, was beaten by an inswinging Evans corner. At the other end Eagling rounded Senior only for Jonathan Beales to clear the danger and with less than ten minutes remaining Uffindall pounced on a loose ball to smack home his hat-trick goal. This should have been enough to secure the three points for the visitors but with five minutes remaining they gave away a soft free kick which was compounded by a weak headed clearance that could not have fallen better for captain Brian Ross to smack home the equaliser.
