SPA ATHLETIC 0 BOROUGHBRIDGE ‘A’ 1
A battling performance from Bridge’s ‘A’ team against a strengthened Spa side gave them three valuable points in their struggle against the drop. In spite of Spa winning the two previous encounters Bridge were not deterred in a competitive first half of some good opportunities for both sides. The second half started in similar fashion but with keepers James Cooper and John Hebden in fine form supported by some resolute defending it was difficult to see where a goal would come from. This was until the 61st minute when Wayne Fisher took an in swinging corner which deceived everyone and looked to be on its way into the net before a final touch was claimed by Player Manager Chris Chapman. There was some doubt as to the validity of Chapman’s claim and despite referral to the dubious goals panel and a few beers the matter remains unresolved. Back to the game which saw Spa exert more pressure only to find Bridge equally determined to repel and despite some anxious moments they were able to see the game through. A team performance was validated by the Man of the Match award where several players got a vote/votes before Tom Hussell, in his first year in Senior Football, came out on top with four.
