BOORUGHBRIDGE ‘A’ 1 BURLEY TROJANS RES 3
Back to back victories eased the visitors’ relegations worries but it left the home side with very little chance of avoiding the drop. Bridge were already without player Manager Chris Chapman for this important encounter and were dealt another blow when they lost Mark Burniston to the Reserve team just before kick off. Nevertheless they started confidently enough and were unlucky to have a Johnny Brear goal disallowed for offside in the 27th minute. Burley’s best chance had been comfortably saved by James Cooper and with half time approaching Bridge’s well organised defence was breached twice in the space of three minutes. On 42 minutes they got themselves in a tangle which allowed Simon Walker to strike home the opener and they had barely settled down from this setback before Gary Shankland added a second. A Paul Scaife strike five minutes after the break eased their frustration only for ‘Coops or maybe ‘oops’ to drop a howler three minutes later from an innocuous looking high lob from Chris Wheeler. Despite their precarious position in the league Bridge did not let their heads drop and opportunities for Steve Warburton and Craig Kitching both flashed over the bar with keeper Chris Hargreaves well beaten.
