BOROUGHBRIDGE 1 HOWDEN CLOUGH 0
Bridge started this game like a team on a mission with Marcus Philpott and Martin Hutchinson both firing over and Paul Eagling having a shot blocked by the legs of Andy Simpson and keeper Sam Mellor scrambling away his follow up effort. Ollie Uffindall then planted a header wide of the upright from an excellent Philpott cross and it was twenty minutes before Nathan Mallas and Matt Durkin had the first serious attempts on goal for the visitors despite the advantage of a strong swirling wind. Andy Emptage was the next to miss for Bridge as he headed wide a Danny Webster cross and Uffindall then fired over before Tom Grogan and Durkin engineered a chance for the visitors with Simpson ending a dour first half by hitting a twenty yard free kick wide well off target. Within a minute of the restart Hutchinson picked out an unmarked Emptage who failed to beat Mellor from six yards out, Eagling fired wide following a mazy dribble and with an element of frustration beginning to show in Bridge’s game Uffindall produced a clinical finish after being put clear by a Paul Vincent header. Kyle Laycock caused a few problems down the left flank as Howden tried to respond but Donohoe, Tovey and Henry were resolute in defence and it was the home side who had the better of the late chances with Eagling and Uffindall both off target and Mellor tipping a Vincent effort over the bar.
