BEESTON ST ANTHONY’S 0 BOROUGHBRIDGE 1
Strike early and then defend manfully was probably not the way they set about this fixture but that the way it turned out as Bridge grabbed all three points from their trip to Beeston. The game was only two minutes in when Nick Murphy controlled a long clearance from Alastair Hogg and buried the ball in the bottom corner of Karl Codd’s net. This was just the fillip Bridge needed and for the next few minutes they had a couple of half chances but thereafter it was Beeston who were creating the better of the opportunities with the physical presence of ‘Man Mountain’ Mark Cunningham a constant threat to the Bridge defence. Sean Jeavons, Mark Cunningham & Carl Feehan were all benefactors but they were either off target or denied by Hogg and when Jeavons got the opportunity from the penalty spot the Bridge keeper produced an excellent save. Martin Hutchinson had an early chance in the second half and Marcus Philpott hit the post and although the home side again had the majority of the play they were thwarted by some resolute defending from Mark Tyson, Steve Tovey and Stuart Henry together with another Man of the Match performance from Hogg.
