BOROUGHBRIDGE 6 ROTHWELL ATHLETIC 0
After an enforced mid winter break Bridge returned to action at their Aldborough Road ground with a convincing victory over lowly placed Rothwell Athletic. They were gifted the opener on nine minutes when an Andy Kent corner was unnecessarily handled and Paul Eagling hammered the resultant penalty into the bottom corner. This was just the fillip they needed and Kent and Martin Hutchinson both had goal bound efforts blocked before Alastair Hogg made his first save of the afternoon on 17 minutes from a Ryan Donoghue effort. The keeper was in the action again shortly afterwards only this time as a provider with a precise sixty yard pass that put Eagling in the clear leaving the striker to do the rest with an astute chip over the advancing Lee Wood. A misunderstanding in the home defence could have proved costly but Donoghue failed to capitalize and Jarod Wallace was off target with a free kick as the visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game but it was Bridge who finished the half the better with Eagling just wide on a couple of occasions. Both sides knew what a crucial period the opening of the second half would be and when the Wood’s long free kick was misjudged by Jimmy Binks, Jeff Baron slipped it to Donoghue who was again denied as Hogg was well placed to tip over his close range drive. This proved pivotal on fifty minutes when Wood was left motionless when Eagling thumped a 20 yard free kick into the top corner and three minutes later he took his personal tally to four with a deft header from a Binks cross. The visitors continued to create the occasional problem and Hogg produced another brilliant save to thwart Craig Hartley but it was home side that were generally the dominant force with Ben Mudd heading home a corner on 61 minutes and Ben Darville getting on the end of an Eagling cross to complete the scoring 10 minutes from time.
