BOROUGHBRIDGE 2 RIPON CITY 1
Bridge opened their home League campaign against newly promoted Ripon City in what was always going to be an eagerly contested local derby especially as they had lost four players to their nearest rivals in the close season. It was Bridge who opened the scoring when Micky Sellers headed home a Nathan Garnham corner and when further opportunities came and went it allowed the visitors to come more into the game. On 39 minutes, however, ex Bridge keeper, Ollie Barton came rushing out of his goal and his rash challenge on Paul Eagling resulted in a penalty, which skipper Paul Vincent coolly converted. The half time break came at the right time for the visitors and after the interval it was a very determined, invigorated side that took the field. On 57 minutes they got their reward with a well worked move finished off by Paul Abbott but despite pressing hard for the equaliser an experienced Bridge were able to hang on to the points.
