BOROUGHBRIDGE RES 2 ROTHWELL ATHLETIC RES 2
After some early pressure Bridge fell behind when a Craig Hartley shot took a wicked deflection to leave Tony Harrison with no chance and they suffered a further setback on 33 minute when their inspirational captain Jimmy Binks was forced to retire. His replacement 17 year old Alex Croft soon made an impact when he got on the end of a Tony Lavery corner to put Bridge level with a powerful header four minutes later. It was almost déjà vu for Croft on 47minutes but this time Rothwell managed to scramble the ball clear. Bridge did take the lead on 62 minutes when the ball ran loose from a Tom Smith challenge and Ross Hamilton made the most of a difficult opportunity to volley home from 15 yards. Hamilton was then brought down in the box and when Lee Wood got down low to push away his resultant penalty it served to galvanise the visitors. Four minutes later Rothwell were level when Liam Morris powerfully headed home a free kick and despite further chances to both sides a share of the spoils was about right on the day.
