BOROUGHBRIDGE RES 4 WHITKIRK WANDERERS RES 1
In previous clashes between the two, Whitkirk have always held the upper hand, but on this occasion an emphatic home display put their nemesis to the sword. Bridge got off to an excellent start when from their first corner the visitors' keeper Neil Howard's punched clearance was volleyed back into the roof of the net by the impressive Dave Coffey. This was on 3 minutes and 5 minutes later they consolidated their position through man of the match Phil Wix who took advantage of a collision between Howard and Matt Fawcett to slide the ball home from 20 yards out. Danny Murtagh pegged the home side back when he scored from a narrow angle on 14 minutes only for Wix to restore the two goal cushion on 26 minutes with another excellent finish after being set up by Andy Hall. The second half was generally one way traffic as Bridge laid siege on the Whitkirk goal and the visitors plight was not helped by the dismissal of their full back just past the hour mark. Despite the pressure the home side could only add one more to their tally when Howard pushed out Ben Darville's stinging drive into the path of Metcalfe who capped a fine debut by powering the ball back into the net from the edge of the box.
