BOROUGHBRIDGE RES 5 WETHERBY ATHLETIC RES 2
Bridge returned to winning ways with a solid team performance against close rivals Wetherby Athletic. The enigmatic Paul Smith should have given them the lead but was wasteful on both occasions and it looked ominous when in the visitors first meaningful they were awarded a penalty for a trip on Jason Minott which was converted with ease by Jamie Frances. On 18 minutes Jonathan Werrett calmed the nerves by levelling matters after Smith's initial effort had been saved by Chris Antcliffe and Smith then got himself on the score sheet volleying home from a tight angle. Bridge began playing with more confidence and Smith, with a superb left foot volley, gave them the fillip of a two goal cushion ten minutes before the break. A minute into the second half Barker hit the post only for Bridge to be  caught napping at the other end a minute later as Minott headed home a Chris Turner's cross following a short coner. It was Bridge who continued to have the better of the chances but the found the  replacement Wetherby keeper in fine form until the 64th minute when Smith drifted by two defender before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner. This knocked the stuffing out of the visitors and on 77 minute the indefatigable Werrett finished off a sweeping four man move to put Bridge in the right frame of mind for their visit to table topping Rothwell Athletic.
