~Match Report 2007/08~
Sunday 6th January 2008 Boroughbridge Reserves produced a battling performance in this quarter final tie at Barwick. On a pitch, which has obviously seen better days, they produced some quality football, and were eventually unlucky to lose. Boroughbridge started the brighter of the two sides, and Barwick goalkeeper Daniel Leadbeater kept the home side in the game with two full length saves in the opening exchanges. Boroughbridge were undone with two goals in the last five minutes of the first-half; the first, a bullet header from Daniel Morley from a corner-kick, and the second, right on the stroke of half-time, by John Robinson after the ball should have been cleared by Bridge defender Daniel Cooke. In the second-half, Bridge 'rolled up their sleeves' and made a fight of it, totally matching a very strong Barwick team. Man of the match for Boroughbridge was stand-in keeper Richie Renton. His handling was to perfection all game, and he showed excellent bravery on numerous occasions. Bridge could not claw their way back into the game despite good prompting from the two Tom's, Smith and Hoare, in the centre of midfield. Gary Watts once again came close on several occasions, and what looked like a clear penalty was ruled outside the box in the favour of Barwick. Well done to all the Boroughbridge lads for their efforts. |
