BOROUGHBRIDGE 1 SCHOLES 0
Bridge were made to work hard for this victory and it took them until the 85minute to break the resolve of keeper Dave Britton and Carlton Cuffy and Ricky Caine at the heart Scholes defence. On a tacky playing surface exacerbated by Saturday's fixture Bridge played some excellent football at times but lacked the incisiveness to open up the visitors. Baz O'Neill contrived an early opening for himself and other efforts from Paul Eagling Chris Stephenson and Danny Webster either found the safe hands of Britton or were wide of the mark. Scholes did enjoy brief periods of ascendancy without seriously troubling Hogg mainly due to another maturing performance from Ben Clayton. There was little change to the pattern of play after the interval and Bridge's frustrations were alleviated by a foray into the visitors half from Rich Donohoe and his resultant effort that rattled the post - sorry you optimists - it was the telegraph post at the back of the goal. Stephenson and Tom Smith, on another day, could both have had penalties but it was an animated Paul Eagling who pushed Bridge towards victory. On 80 minutes he was denied by the legs of Britton, two minutes later, from a similar position, he shot wide before weaving his way past three defenders five minutes from time and picking out an unmarked Webster to head home the winner.
