BOROUGHBRIDGE 'A' 1 BECKWITHSHAW RESERVES 1
With only one recognised goalkeeper available throughout the Club, Captain Chris Chapman was again given the task of donning the gloves in this relegation six pointer. The home side started the game well with a spectacular overhead by Jamie Smith saved by keeper Sam Moore before the visitors started to get a grip on the game. They looked particularly threatening going forward against a nervy home defence and took the lead after only 11 minutes when quick thinking by Dan Skelton picked out Nathan Robinson to open the scoring with Bridge still setting up the wall. 'Shaw were now dominating the game and only a spectacular finger tip save by Chapman prevented a John Strover header increasing their lead. Bridge's best outlet at this stage was down the right wing through Ollie Bone and from one shot cum cross Moore did well to tip the effort on to the bar. The home side made a tactical switch at half time unitising the experience of Marcus Philpott in midfield along with Ross Mardon which gave them a better foothold in the game. The move paid dividends when Dave Burniston was pushed in the area allowing Smith to step up and equalise from the penalty spot. Johnny Brear then hit the side netting following another good build up whilst at the other end Chapman had to be alert to tip over 'Shaw corner that deflected off the head of Philpott. Play from both sides became more anxious in the last few minutes and only a goal line clearance denied Paul Norfolk the winner three minutes from time.
