SCHOLES 1 BOROUGHBRIDGE 2
On a small tacky surface Bridge put in a determined performance to secure a place in the semi-final of the League Challenge Cup. There was little to choose between the two sides with the breakthrough coming in the 26th minute following good work by Dan Saxon and when the ball fell to Baz O,Neill he shifted it on to his right foot before shooting hard and low into the corner. Eight minutes later it was all square again as Bridge were caught out by a long clearance from where Martin Bell picked out Simon Thompson to beat Ollie Barton from 10 yards. Chances thereafter were at a premium as both sides worked hard but neither were unable to find that cutting edge to open up two resolute defences. The eventual winner came in the 71st minute when a headed clearance fell into the path of Paul Scaife and his crisp volley into the bottom left hand corner gave keeper Dan Walker no chance. Josh Kidd gave another sound performance in the Bridge defence with Baz O'Neill working tirelessly up front but it was reserve team captain Chris Chapman who received the plaudits on the day
MOM C Chapman.
