HARTSHEAD RES 1 BOROUGHBRIDGE RES 1
Two weeks ago on a flat hard surface these two sides produced an entertaining game full of quality and drama which was never going to be the case on Saturday on a quagmire of a pitch, that was barely playable and exacerbated by a howling gale blowing down the ground. Bridge played with the wind in the first half and totally dominated proceedings only to squander numerous chances with the hero from the last encounter Johnny Hunt being guilty on two occasions, at least, of missing one on one situations with the Hartshead keeper Richard Wood. He was not the only guilty party, however, and it took a Phil Wix penalty on the stroke of half time to give them a slender lead, when, in truth, the game and points should have been put to bed. Despite kicking into the wind in the second half Bridge continued to control the game for long periods leaving the home side to mount the occasional counter attack. Predictably from one of these rare raids, Matt Blackburn, although yards offside was allowed a run on goal to finish at his second attempt.  With only twenty minutes remaining the home goal again came under siege but poor finishing and the terrible state of the pitch left Bridge to contemplate what might have been. Fittingly Mark Greenhalgh was named MOM for a fine display at both ends of the park in what will be his final game in the Bridge blue due to a posting to Aldershot. Best of luck.
