Bridge gave up the Whitworth Cup with hardly a whimper as they were outplayed by Harrogate League side Spa Athletic. Right from the start Spa were pressing in all areas of the field and their incisive passing together with the wing play of Pat Taylor and Craig Rampling complemented by a Ben Jones hat trick had Bridge reeling. They deservedly took the lead on 25minutes and Jones consolidated their position when he headed home a second just before half time. Bridge fared little better after the interval and a further two goals served to confirm Spa's superiority. An Andy Layton free kick near the end was little consolation for Bridge in a game spoilt by numerous stoppages and some fastidious refereeing which ended up with the man in the middle being the focus of conversation rather than the quality of Spa performance.
