SHERBURN WHITE ROSE RES 5 BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES 1
This comprehensive defeat by third from bottom Sherburn certainly looks like a turn up for the books but the home side were able to reinforce their ranks with first team players and this was mirrored in the quality of their approach play and clinical finishing which made a mockery of their lowly league position. The home side took the lead after only three minutes through Steve Wainwright and a brace from Adam Priestley gave Sherburn a comfortable half time lead. Jonathan Barker produced two excellent saves to deny Bridge further embarrassment as they struggled to muster an effort on target in the opening 45 minutes. A change of formation gave the visitors a little more possession but just as they seemed to be getting a foothold in the game Mark Bradley was left with a free header to add their fourth. Bridge continued to plug away and when given an opportunity from the penalty spot Paul Smith blasted his effort against the crossbar. Dan Thirkell did reduce the arrears when his cross cum shot found its way past Liam Quirke but it was the home side who had the last word as Priestley completed his hat trick finishing off an excellent four man move. Dave Coffey was Bridge's MOM for his tenacity and work ethic, qualities his side will need in the coming weeks.
