BOROUGHBRIDGE 2 THE SHIP 1 (aet)
Bridge, although a Division higher, were probably the underdogs for this tie but in a frenetic encounter in difficult playing conditions, it was the home side that came out winners. The first half was highly competitive as both sides struggled to get a foothold on the game with a 36 minute fracas resulting in two reds and two yellows the main topic of conversation over a half time cup of tea. The Ship looked in good shape on 70 minutes when a 40-yard free kick from Chris Perry floated over keeper Alastair Hogg into an empty net. Their elation only lasted three minutes as a mazy run and shot from Paul Eagling was parried by keeper Mark Rimmer into the path of Chris Chapman who forced home the equaliser. As neither side were able to poach the winner the game went into extra time when it was the visitors who looked the likely winners. Bridge battled resolutely with an excellent defensive performance from Dave Burniston confirming his potential and just when Bridge Manager Richard Donohoe was sorting out his penalty takers Ben Darville burst through the Ship defence to loop the winner over the advancing Rimmer.
