WETHERBY ATHLETIC RES 0 BOROUGHBRIDGE RES 2
Bridge were glad to leave March behind as they arrested their decline and returned to winning ways with a solid team performance. The visitors set their stall out from the start and should have gone in front after 6mins but Paul Smith could only fire over from 6 yards when well placed. With a defensive line up of Steve Kirby, Dave Burniston, Jon Werrett & Ollie Barton the home side were restricted to long range efforts that were easily dealt with by Jonathan Barker and when Wetherby failed to clear a corner on 19 minutes Burniston was on hand to beat Chris Antcliffe with a superb 20yard volley. The rest of the half became a midfield battle with Dave Coffey and Stuart Henry asserting themselves and with good support from Andy Hall and the indefatigable Tom Smith on the wings it was no surprise when Coffey fired home from six yards straight after the break reacting the quickest to a P Smith corner. Bridge were now in complete control and only the post and an excellent save from Antcliffe denied P Smith adding to the scoreline as they eased their way to victory. There were some fine individual displays on the day epitomised by a solid defensive performance from the versatile Ollie Barton but it was improving Dave Burniston who gained the MOM award.
MOM D Burniston.
