BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES 2 KNARESBOROUGH RES 1
After a season that promised much Bridge finished on a cup winning note with this Hulme Cup victory at Mallorie Park. It did not start too well for Bridge when a scuffed clearance fell to Frazer Lancaster who duly dispatched the ball past Tony Harrison after only 90 seconds. Buoyed by their early success K'boro continued to look the more threatening but with the back four looking more assured and Simon Metcalf and Dave Coffey making their presence felt in midfield Bridge came more into the game. As the half wore on Bridge began to assert more and more pressure only to find 17 year old Lewis Mallinson unassailable in the Boro goal until the 43rd minute when Jamie Smith superbly headed home Metcalf's cross. The second half started with K'Boro again in the ascendancy and Harrison had to be at his best to deny Chris Hastings but similar to the first half Bridge gradually worked themselves back into the game. The eventual winner came on 74minutes when Dave Coffey unleashed a tremendous drive which Mallinson managed to tip onto the bar only to see the onrushing Jason Kehoe head the ball into his own net. This set up a frenetic finale which, despite a couple of scary moments, Bridge survived to end up as Hulme cup winners for the first time since 1987.
