Boroughbridge AFC Veterans Match Reports 12/13
21/08/12 - Boroughbridge AFC Vets 4-3 West Tanfield FC - Friendly
'Bridge Veterans rounded out the club's pre-season schedule at Aldborough Road with a close victory, winning by the odd goal in seven. Jimmy Binks scored a brace with Paul Stephenson and Andy Layton also contributing goals to the cause as 'Bridge notched up a fourth pre-season victory from nine matches.
14/10/12 - Boroughbridge AFC Vets 4-2 Ilkley Vets - League
'Bridge dominated the first half of this York Corinthians League encounter, but created little in the way of chances. They were twice caught on the break, conceding from one of these incidents, but managed to stay on terms thanks to a Marcus Philpott leveller, with Philpott latching on to a loose ball to fire home. 'Bridge would go in at the break trailing after conceding a second, but things got better in the second half with top scoring marksman Paul Stephenson replacing Jamie Smith on the field of play. The switch soon paid dividends after Stephenson latched onto an Andy Layton through ball and lobbed the Ilkley 'keeper to restore parity. Two 'Bridge penalties in quick succession could have given 'Bridge a good lead, but Stephenson missed his, with Lee Brook stepping up to successfully convert the second. Ilkley then had a penalty of their own but couldn't get back on terms thanks to a save by Alastair Hogg in the 'Bridge goal and it was Brook who had the last word, ensuring the victory in slotting home a Stephenson pass.
Man of Match - Marcus Philpott
12/05/13 - Boroughbridge AFC Vets 2-1 Harrogate Vets - Play-Off Final
Vets enjoyed an excellent opening 25 minutes and should have had the game sewn up by half time. In the first few minutes Bowes in the Harrogate goal found an Ian Raynor shot too hot to handle and the predatory Paul Stephenson was on hand to scramble in the opener. Stephenson could have had another minutes later but it was Marcus Philpott who added the second with his sweet strike from the edge of the box nestling in the bottom corner. It was 'Bridge who were playing the better football but they always had to be alert to the livewire Steve Davey and twice Alastair Hogg denied him follwoing defensive errors. The second half was a complete contrast with Harrogate Vets forcing the pressure and it took a resolute display from the 'Bridge back line of Steve Kirby, Simon Taylor, Mark Chisholm and Steve Coghlin together with the wiles of Alastair Hogg to keep them at bay. Rarely did 'Bridge get out of their half but they remained dogged until 15 minutes from time when Hogg was beaten by a spectacular overhead volley to set up a tense finale which could have been alleviated by Johnny Brear who somehow missed the target from 3 yards. The tension of the battleground was lifted by the final whistle as both sides shook hands and went off for a shower, a pint and the presentations.
Man of Match - Simon Taylor
