Euro 2008at Boroughbridge AFC23 Jun - Barren Nights!

Leaderboard as at 13.10 after:
Spain 0 - 0 Italy
Spain win 4-2 on Penalties
Next : Germany v Turkey - Wed 25 June
Live on BBC1 @ 19.45

Well what a useless bunch the SEVEN have proved to be!! Only 4 points taken between them from a possible 140 in the Quarter Finals. How did they get through the group stages? In their defence, both Turkey and Russia were winners against normal expectations, although a draw may have seemed likely last night. So it's time for them to prove their worth and claim the LUCKY SEVEN crown with some proper punditry in the Semis, which start on Wednesday. Let's hope they can get something from these, as games are running out!

Euro 2008at Boroughbridge AFC24 Jun - The Title Deciders?

Russia v Spain - Thu 26 June

So we now hit the real make or break period. Whilst the winner can't be decided on tomorrow's result, Nick could take the title on Thursday if results go his way. With up to 5 available for each of the Semi Finals and 7 for the Final itself, every one of the SEVEN is still in with a shout. Tom Hendry could see a decisive move tomorrow if his bold stance of believing that Turkey can take Germany to extra time pays off, whilst only Slonka is brave enough to believe that Spain can beat Russia in normal time. The Second Semi predictions are certainly "interesting" and if true might signal a new force in European football. One cannot argue that Russia have been entertainers; whether our SEVEN will entertain us remains to be seen. Check back tomorrow for more updates.

Euro 2008at Boroughbridge AFC25 Jun - Lahm replaces Turkey for Sunday Feast!

Leaderboard as at 22.45 after:
Germany 3 - 2 Turkey
Next : Russia v Spain - Thu 26 June
Live on ITV 1 @ 19.45

With only 4 minutes to go we were looking at a Klose finish. Then Senturk struck and it looked like Tom Hendry would be leaping through into second place. Philipp Lahm's 90th minute winner broke Turkish (and Hendry) hearts though, handing 2 points to each of the 6 punters who backed Germany. This was obviously a load of Ballacks for Tom who sadly now, with only 12 points left to score, needs a lot of Frings to go his way to win. Meanwhile, Nick Cooke could Rustu at least a share of the win if tomorrow's game finishes as a 1-1 draw. Only a 2-1 win for Russia can see Nick displaced as leader, Dale Binns having the chance to Topal him by a single point with just the final to go. (That's enough puns on tonight's players names for a lifetime I think.)

How decisive will tomorrow be? We'll update this site as soon as we can get back from the big screen showing at Aldborough Road.

Euro 2008at Boroughbridge AFC26 Jun - Slonk Closes In

Leaderboard as at 23.45 after:
Russia 0 - 3 Spain
Next : Germany v Spain - Sun 29 June
Live on BBC 1 @ 19.45 & on Big Screen at BAFC

So we are nearly there. After 30 matches of Euro 2008, with only the Final left, Nick Cooke still sits at the top of the pile, a position he has held since the eighth night on June 14th. Tonight, only Slonka went for the Spanish win, gaining what could be a valuable 2 points in his quest to hunt down Nick. The low scoring in the knockout stages has generally meant little movement at the top, and of the SEVEN, only Tom Hendry cannot win or at least share the top spot. The top three can all claim an outright win, depending upon their predictions. To ensure fairness for this last match, we can assure you that once lodged, competitors will not be allowed to alter their predictions, as has been the case throughout the tournament. So good luck to all of the SEVEN, and I for one cannot decide who will win the match on Sunday, so they have an unenviable task in picking their scores. Check back on Sunday when we will preview the final by giving you a cheeky look at their predictions!

Pannal 4 beat 'Bridge CC by 7 wickets yesterday at Aldborough Road as a combination of tight bowling and poor batting saw 'Bridge all out for 146. Darren Fowles had a great knock of 52no coming in 8th, but 5 ducks left the hosts with a mountain to climb. Without too much drama, Pannal knocked off the required runs for the loss of just 3 wickets with 8 overs to spare. Despite the result 'Bridge stay 5points clear of the chasing pack at the top of Nidderdale League 7.

After 22 days and 33 matches Euro 2008 will draw to a close tonight at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna, where the eyes of the world will be on Ballack and Villa (if fit), or Torres and Schweinsteiger and the rest.

The real show is closer to home though, where the eyes of Boroughbridge will be watching the LUCKY SEVEN, to see just who does come through as Champion after an epic struggle. Nick Cooke is sitting nicely at the top of the pile with a 4 point cushion, which means that to displace him, his rivals are going to have to get the correct score as well as the correct outcome.

The situation is as follows:
Nick Cooke - will win if Germany win or any of his 4 closest rivals fail to get the outcome and score correct
Dale Binns, Slonka - will win if Spain win by their predicted score
Joyce Ekin - will share the Title if the game ends as a 2-2 draw
PaulThompson - will share the title if Spain win 2-1
Nigel Coultas, Tom Hendry - neither can now win.

Remember there's 3 points for the correct outcome, and 7 for the correct outcome matched with the correct score. Also, the score is taken after 90 minutes are up. Extra Time and penalties do not count.

Whatever the outcome it has been great fun. Check back later for the final leaderboard. Good luck to them all, and let's hope the final in Vienna can be a showpiece to prove just how good football can be!
