6 Jan - Pool Trip Postponed After Flooding

This week's poor weather has taken it's first casualty, with this Sunday's Veterans team trip to Pool postponed due to a flooded pitch. After the heavy rains of the past seven days the River Wharfe, which adjoins the Pool sports complex, has burst its banks and rendered all pitches unplayable. The fixture will be rearranged for a date in the near future.

7 Jan - Results: 'Bridge Get The Job Done

Boroughbridge AFC bounced back from last weekend's Derby Day defeat earlier today, beating Sherburn White Rose by two goals to nil at Aldborough Road. Both teams made a slow start to the match but it was 'Bridge who upped their game suitably in the second half, with Ben Jones opening the scoring on 64 minutes. The visitors had their chances to level matters but Jones put the match beyond all doubt three minutes into stoppage time with a headed effort. The result lifts 'Bridge two places in the West Yorkshire Premier Division to ninth with the possibility of climbing a further two should they beat Whitkirk Wanderers next weekend. 'Bridge Reserves were on the back foot from the off in their visit to Alliance Division One high fliers Knaresborough Town Reserves, conceding after just 17 seconds, but put in a very good performance from there on in and were unlucky not to come out of the match with something, eventually going down by two goals to one with the 'Bridge goal courtesy of a Town own goal. 'Bridge 'A' were also behind early in their tie against Pannal Sports Reserves, which was played at Aldborough Road due to waterlogging of the Pannal pitch. Paul Scaife was quick to restore parity but Pannal accelerated away from 'Bridge following the goal, scoring a further three to take home a four one victory.

8 Jan - Result: 'Bridge Clean Bowled

'Bridge Sunday exited the County Sunday Cup earlier today after failing to breach their opponents defence and conceding a scrappy second half goal. Twice defending Cup winners West Bowling arrived at Aldborough Road looking assured and well prepared and made a similar start to the match. Wayne Fisher's young side weren't going to allowed themselves to be intimidated, however, and soon grew into the game. As half time approached it was the home side on the offensive more frequently than the defensive and 'Bridge were able to work the ball into the Bowling box on multiple occasions only to lack the midas touch to finish the ball. The second half started more evenly, but having held firm for nearly an hour the home defence was opened up on the 60 minute mark with mis-communication and some sloppy play giving the visitors the goal they needed. 'Bridge dipped after the goal but never looked likely to give up without a fight. They had chances to force extra time in the closing stages, just as their opponents had chances to add a second, but no goal was forthcoming and the score finished one nil to the visitors. Despite the disappointing result, Fisher and his team can look back on what has been a good campaign in which they have fought though three tough matches against much fancied opponents and had they had a different draw could well have been heading on to the Quarter-Finals.
