2 Apr - Reserves Set To Close Out Season

Boroughbridge AFCThe remaining fixtures of the 11/12 season have now been released by the respective leagues, and see 'Bridge Reserves in action on Closing Day on 12th May, facing Wetherby Athletic Reserves in what could well be a must win match to avoid relegation. Two teams will be relegated from the West Yorkshire Alliance Division One at the end of the season, and 'Bridge currently sit third from bottom of the table with six games still to play, all of which for 'Bridge will be against teams in the top six positions in the league. With just a three point lead over the relegation zone the race for survival really is now on for Tony Coles's team.

Boroughbridge AFC, meanwhile, have only four games left in their league season, closing out the campaign at home to Oxenhope Recreation on 28th April and with at least two cup games left to look forward to, the first of which being on Wednesday evening. Both the 'A' team and Veterans team have two games remaining in their seasons, whilst the Sunday side will close their season with three league games followed by the Harrogate FA Sunday Challenge Cup Final on 29th April at Manse Lane.

4 Apr - Double Defence Comes Crashing Down

Boroughbridge AFC's double defence came crashing down to Earth earlier this evening at the CNG Stadium as they were squarely humiliated by Ripon City in the Whitworth Cup Final. With two Blue Square North standard players in their side City took control of the game early and by half time had established a two goal to nil lead, despite 'Bridge having the ball in the back of the net once, only for the effort to be ruled offside. The second half started more evenly with 'Bridge denied by a spectacular quadruple save, worthy of winning any cup final, from Mark Tyson in the Ripon nets and just minutes later by last ditch City defending, with the ball being cleared off the line. In a situation where the next goal would change the match, it would be Ripon who stepped up to the plate, adding a third to their lead on 64 minutes and then a fourth on 68 minutes. When Mark Burniston was sent off with 70 minutes on the clock for a second bookable offence and City added a fifth two minutes later, the match became a damage control exercise for 'Bridge. They succeeded in this task, weathering the remainder of the Ripon storm and even managing to find a way past Tyson twice, with Ben Jones netting a consolation goal and the other ruled offside. 'Bridge must now pick themselves up before their defence of the League Cup continues next Tuesday against Bardsey at Manse Lane.

7 Apr - Results: Fletchers Rule The Roost

Boroughbridge AFC conceded two goals within the first five minutes earlier today in their derby match at Knaresborough Town and never recovered, eventually losing by three goals to one. Without strikers Paul Eagling and Ben Jones the task was always going to be difficult and the early deficit was compounded when Mark Baranovsky missed from the penalty spot. As the match progressed Town would add another to their tally and 'Bridge would open their account courtesy of an own goal, but at the final whistle Daz Ekin was left to reflect on a second derby defeat in less than a week as his side stay seventh in the West Yorkshire Premier Division. 'Bridge Reserves, meanwhile, fared even worse in their derby encounter at Wetherby Athletic Reserves, going down by four goals to one. The result, coupled with a win for Brighouse Old Boys Reserves, leaves 'Bridge just one point above the drop zone with Brighouse having a game in hand.

With 'Bridge's two West Yorkshire League teams on the road today it fell to 'Bridge 'A' to host the feature match at Aldborough Road, and they didn't disappoint with Fletcher brothers Luke and Jake combining for five goals, complemented by a Sean Corbett effort. It was Luke Fletcher who opened the scoring early, finding the net in the second minute before brother Jake added a second in the fifteenth minute. Luke completed his brace five minutes later, and Jake his in the 35th minute. The question going into the break was not over the match outcome, but over which Fletcher would completed their hat-trick first. The answer was not far away as with eigth minutes on the second half clock Luke fired home his third to give 'Bridge a commanding five nil lead. Hampsthwaite never gave up the fight and pulled one back on 65 minutes, but as the match entered the final stages Jake missed a gilt edged chance for his third, and Sean Corbett hit the net to restore the five goal advantage, which would remain until the final whistle.
