Boroughbridge AFC31 Dec - 2012: A Look Back

Whilst it can be argued that 'Bridge started the party that was 2012 a year early with the treble-winning 2011, it shouldn't necessarily be said that we also ended the party a year early, with plenty of memorable moments taking place in the past year. Here's a countdown of our five favourites:

5. New season, new Gaffer. The Club welcomes Elliott Sheeran from Leeds City to spearhead the Reserves' 12/13 campaign.

4. Travelin' well. Boroughbridge AFC start the 12/13 season with five wins out of six on the road, including holding off a spirited fightback to cling on to a four three win at Leeds City.

3. Cup progress for 12/13. After a cup final in 11/12, 'Bridge Sunday move into the Knockout Cup Semi-Finals with a five one win over Burton Leonard Squirrel. Boroughbridge AFC book a Whitworth Cup Semi-Final against Beckwithshaw Saints with an eleven nil win over Killinghall Nomads.

2. Ending in style. Tony Coles' Reserves side secure their safety in the Alliance Division One after a relegation dogfight, taking 10 points from their last four games and winning ten one at Carlton on the last day of the season.

1. An El Clasico Cup Win. 'Bridge book their place in the 11/12 League Cup Semi-Final with a two one win at local rivals Knaresborough Town. Daz Ekin dedicated the victory to Club Chairman Andrew Willey.
1 Jan - Happy New Year

Happy New Year to one and all from the team here at Boroughbridge AFC Online, here's to hoping that 2013 bring much success both on and off the pitch for the Club and its members. Don't forget that the Christmas match between Daz's Decorations and Tricky's Trimmings is tomorrow morning at Aldborough Road, 11 a.m. kick-off, and is the best way to usher in the new sporting year.
Boroughbridge AFC2 Jan - Christmas Cancelled At 'Bridge

Following two successive weekends of postponements 'Bridge's regulars were looking forward to getting back into action earlier today in the Club's annual Christmas game between Daz's Decorations and Tricky's Trimmings, but after a promising situation earlier in the week, overnight rain failed to clear from the playing surface at Aldborough Road and a pitch-side meeting of the Cromwell Committee decided that for the good of the weekend's scheduled fixtures the Christmas game should be cancelled.

Boroughbridge AFC3 Jan - Ekin Swoops For Eagling

Several high profile departures decimated 'Bridge Manager Daz Ekin's squad during the off-season, but as 2013 dawns Ekin can increasingly look at his roster optimistically. The return of the ubiquitous Danny Webster from his stint in Australia provided Ekin with a boost, and we are today very pleased to be able to announce that celebrated talisman Paul Eagling, pictured left with the League Cup having been a key part of the winning 'Bridge side, has made the switch from Knaresborough Town back to Boroughbridge AFC. The move, which Ekin described as great news and predicts will give the Club a big boost going into the new year, give's 'Bridge's Manager an eviable line-up of top quality strikers with Eagling joining the strike-force of Ben Jones, Matt Thompson and Dan McDaid which has 'Bridge as fourth top-scorers in the West Yorkshire Premier Division this season.

Team sheets are now online for the opening block of fixtures of 2013. The year opens with a full slate of five matches, with 'Bridge the only side on the road, at Carlton, and the Reserves, 'A' team, Sunday side and Veterans hosting Wetherby Athletic Reserves, Albert Sports Yeadon, Atlanta and Pool AFC Veterans respectively. View all the build-up in the first Matchday of the new year.
5 Jan - Results: 'A' Mount Charge On Top
[Updated - Scorers added]

'Bridge 'A' recorded a sixth victory of the season earlier today at Aldborough Road, opening 2013 with a two goal to one victory over Albert Sports Yeadon to slash the gap to the top of the Harrogate & District Division Two to a mere two points. Sean Corbett had given Richard Donohoe's troops the perfect start with a goal in the opening minutes, before Danny Harrison levelled for Albert Sports. The match looked to be heading for a draw until a last minute strike from Ben Blakey kept all three points at Aldborough Road.

News was less good, however, from today's two West Yorkshire League games with Boroughbridge AFC and 'Bridge Reserves recording a pair of three one losses for the Club. Daz Ekin's men returned empty-handed from Carlton Athletic having dominated much of the first half before conceding two goals in the last four minutes of the half. A goal from the returning Paul Eagling ten minutes from time gave 'Bridge hope before Daniel Bray secured the points with three minutes to go. Elliott Sheeran's side, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the Alliance Division One with defeat to Wetherby Athletic Reserves, who move top of the league, at Aldborough Road. Ater an uneventful first half, Athletic struck twice early in the second period through Mark Waterhouse. Jake Fletcher then reduced the deficit but a late Athletic goal sealed the victory.

A brace from Lee Brook and a Marcus Philpott effort delivered Paul Stephenson's side to a three nil win and three more vital points. 'Bridge Sunday, however, presented a third three one loss of the weekend in falling to Atlanta also at Aldborough Road. Wayne Fisher's side trailed by three after 47 minutes and although Ryan Devine pulled one back on 54 minutes they were unable to find any further way back into the match.
